How We Help Patients

RoundTrip's platform is designed to make transportation as easy and affordable as possible for a patient. Rides through RoundTrip can be covered by insurance, which is an incredibly innovative feature. Sedans booked through RoundTrip are also typically 30-40% cheaper than options that existed a few years ago. RoundTrip also actively takes steps to maximize patient-driver coordination. For example: 1) Rides can be booked to specific hospital entrances, rather than the hospital in general. This ensures that a patient and a driver aren't on two opposite ends of a large medical campus. 2) RoundTrip automatically sends text reminders (in English or Spanish!) multiple times leading up to an appointment. This helps patients remember their ride and ensures punctual arrival. 3) Our 24/7 Navigation Center actively monitors rides to ensure that drivers and patients are able to find each other. 4) Drivers that don't meet our high-quality standards are automatically removed from our system.

How We Help Physicians

RoundTrip leads the non-emergency Medical Transportation industry in reducing patient no-show rates to less than 4%. This means patients are arriving for their appointments with much higher frequency and punctuality, which improves hospital and physician revenue. RoundTrip also makes it SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to order sedan rides, with some health partners seeing savings as high as 40%. Our platform is also incredibly intuitive and easy to use for nurses and social workers. Booking a ride through our HIPAA-compliant platform takes about 63 seconds, which is significantly faster than the 20 minutes spent on hold on the phone with a medical taxi company. This frees up time for care coordinators to focus on issues that matter inside the facility.

Challenge Mission

How We Address the Mission of The Challenge(s)

Access to quality of healthcare is not possible if patients can't even get to healthcare facilities. RoundTrip's digital solution stands out BECAUSE of our desire and willingness to work with underinsured populations. We allow rides to be paid for by Medicaid, and we also allow rides to be paid for by specific grants or cost centers that many hospitals/FQHCs have set aside for low-income residents. Our rides are also often 30-40% cheaper than incumbent options. Additionally, we provide large volumes of new data to hospitals that use our service. Our solution is user-friendly and dedicated to eliminating transportation as a barrier to care.

New Orleans and Our Company

RoundTrip does not currently operate in Louisiana but would welcome the opportunity to enter the state with a new client (like with the University Medical Center, for example). Once a large healthcare facility agrees to a partnership, our transportation team will work rapidly (2-3 weeks, depending on the scope of the agreement) to build a robust transportation network that ensures all patients have ample ride options to use. We are currently in 17 states (including Mississippi and Tennessee), and hope our participation in this challenge will accelerate our ability to help patients in Orleans Parish.

Clinical Information

The National Academy of Sciences conducted a comprehensive study into the effectiveness of non-emergency Medical Transportation. (https://www.nap.edu/catalog/22055/cost-benefit-analysis-of-providing-non-emergency-medical-transportation)

They found, in all 12 tested conditions, that providing NEMT is often cost-saving, or at least cost-effective. The researchers found that additional investment in transportation leads to a net decrease in total costs when both transportation and healthcare are examined. Effectiveness of NEMT was measured by comparing the costs of transportation with the value of an additional Quality Adjusted Life-Year (QALY), as is standard across health economics literature.

Thank You

RoundTrip's mission is to eliminate transportation as a barrier to care, so that patients can get the care they need. For that to happen, we need your help. RoundTrip is a marketplace, meaning we connect healthcare organizations with transportation providers. The more healthcare organizations we bring aboard our platform, the lower the transportation costs for patients.
