First of all, we want to sincerely thank you for funding our project — we have been overwhelmed by the positive response from the community. In fact, we are now in negotiations with a number of strategic partners and will be ending our Medstartr campaign early. The progress we’ve made over the last couple weeks means we will be able to bring the Contact Lens Refresh Card to the market even faster than we anticipated. Make sure to keep up with the latest info about our launch at www.refreshcards.com. Thanks again for your support!
The Refresh Innovations Team
I want to thank you all for supporting this project. Frankly, we are all a little shocked at just how many partnerships we have driven in our first few weeks. This project was active for all of 4 days and received over 1400 views. We can’t say what role we had in this project getting legs, but we are pretty happy to have been part of the picture.
We will process refunds shortly (need to build the early cancellation module first!)
For now, please be welcome to review the great project the Refresh Innovation team put together. These guys really did a great job!
The Contact Lens Refresh Card is an ultra slim, all-in-one contact lens case and multipurpose solution package. Our patent-pending design is the size of a credit card, disposable, and convenient to carry at all times. The final design is the result of over 8 months of work, 425 user interviews, and 34 design iterations.
Our idea was born from design thinking and the lean startup methodology. Through need finding, empathy mapping, and prototyping, we’ve discovered a passion for solving real problems for real people. Our team is obsessed with creating beautifully designed products that balance functionality with convenience and seamlessly integrate into your life.
In addition to pre-selling over 500 units and speaking with industry experts at trade shows, we conducted 425 in-person consumer interviews. We found that:
When you pledge towards this project you are joining the next revolution in eye care solutions. With your help, we hope to raise $20,000 to pay for production tooling and costs associated with ensuring regulatory compliance. We greatly appreciate all of your support! We hope to achieve our goal on MedStartr by September 7th, 2012.
Patients can now better avoid unsafe contact lens care like cleaning lenses with saliva or storing them in tap water. By having a proper method for contact lens storage with them at all times, users may be able to effectively reduce their risk of acquiring infections that can lead to serious complications such as blindness.
As contact lens wear becomes increasingly popular, the rate of eye infections is also increasing due to poor care.
FDA 510(k) certification can take anywhere between 90 and 180 days once our application is submitted. Performing and documenting the appropriate bench testing of the Refresh Card is a costly process- that’s where you come in! The money we raise on MedStartr will be used for bench testing and production tooling, two of the final steps we need to complete before getting the Refresh Card in your hands.
Our team consists of three main members: Collin Walter, Anish Patel, and Matt Pleatman. Collin and Anish are both recovering investment bankers who, after four years in finance, felt they had more to bring to society. So they quit their jobs and went to Stanford with a simple dream of starting their own business. Matt is a serial entrepreneur and engineer at Duke University- he has experience designing a wide array of products spanning from medical devices to race cars.
Our team also includes two awesome advisors:
Darius Moshfeghi, MD, is a leading eye doctor at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford and is consistently listed as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.
Dr. Judy Gordon has over 20 years progressive clinical, regulatory, quality and R&D experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. She has also directed clinical trials of biologics, pharmaceuticals, and Class I, II and III medical devices, from protocol development through clinical reporting to the FDA.
Every dollar counts- you receive our everlasting gratitude!
