About our project

Syndicom has been delivering health care solutions since 2006. Starting in the field of spine surgery, we launched SpineConnect, a free online health care collaboration platform for spine surgeons. This service enabled surgeons from all over the world to share their most difficult and unusual cases in a secure, HIPPA compliant platform and receive feedback from the worlds top surgeons. By creating private “groups” we enabled surgeons to share their cases with close friends, but also enabled those same cases to be shared anonymously with the rest of the community. We quickly gained thousands of users from around the world and had thousands of cases uploaded. At its peak, we had several cases per day being uploaded. We created communities for trauma surgeons and cardiac surgeons as well. As a free service it worked but we needed a revenue model. we were contacted by several medical device companies and created private groups so that they could use the same platform for training, research and clinical trials. When the health care law changed the way surgeries were reimbursed, our customers started to leave. Many of the small companies simply went out of business and the larger ones dramatically cut their budgets. We had clients telling us they felt it was irresponsible not to use the service but economics won out.

Our goal is to figure out a way to sustain and grow these communities. At the end of the day, it is the patient who is benefitting from use. It is a virtual consult resulting in several opinions on the best way to treat the patient. The surgeon or treating physician then uses all of the feedback and determines the treatment plan.
