Clear, precise medical documentation is the cornerstone of safe and efficient healthcare!

Proper spelllling always helps…

……….particularly with drug names…

….and the correct spelling of a diagnosis.

Most EMRs/EHRs lack a built in medical spellchecker – Don’t worry – we have a fix for that!

The goal is to create an easy to integrate cross platform medical spellcheck system based that is free for individual use and has a minimal to no cost to institutions such as hospitals.

We propose to build medical spellcheckers for
- Web Browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox)
- Word Processors (Microsoft Word, OpenOffice.org)
- Spelling Engines like HunSpell
- And create the infrastructure for user contributed medical words to continually update the spellchecker

Our team has released modestly successful medical spellcheckers, but we want to change the approach to this problem and really get these tools out there for everyone.

The costs would be spent developing an Internet Explorer plugin for medical spellchecking and developing a Wiki like system for submitting new medical words that could then be updated for all users.

Our primary team member is Robert Robinson, who is a board certified internist who works at an academic medical center in Illinois. Computer programming and healthcare IT has been a hobby of sorts for many years. He released MedSpel, a medical spelling tool for Microsoft Word in 1998, while he was a medical student.
