About our project

The problem we solve: Practice variation. The gap between institutional knowledge and frontline practice creates errors and increases costs. Frontline nurses, ancillaries, and physicians are overwhelmed. Current systems to support staff inadequately meet care demands and perpetuate the gap. COVID, with the rapid flux of information and practice changes, stretches this gap even further.

About our solution: The Solution: A cloud-based application that drives frontline adoption of the customer’s priority practices through point-of-care microlearning, improving consistency and outcomes. Empower unit/program educators and managers to deliver actionable and trackable microlearning. Accessible 24/7, desktop or mobile with little to no IT burden. No PHI. Elemeno is a “coach in your pocket,” delivering the guidance of your institutional experts at the point of care, wherever and whenever it is needed most. Our clients are using this for COVID frontline readiness, and sharing content with one another, to accelerate iteration and spread of best practices. For new clients, top shared COVID content is pre-loaded, creating a turn-key customizable solution, ready to deploy within 1 day.

Progress to date:

Commercial sales to ED's, hospitals, and public health departments.
$150k of new ARR since COVID pandemic, growing overall SaaS ARR from $650k to current $810k.
COVID solution now live in four states, including ambulatory, ED, post-acute care, and homeless shelters.
Elemeno has just partnered with the American College of Emergency Physicians to deploy a freemium version of Elemeno for COVID frontline readiness nationally. Alpha version has been deployed; beta testing by May, followed by general availability. Funding required to accelerate development.

How We Help Patients

We expect our doctors and nurses to deliver the best care possible, but medical practices are constantly changing. This is the knowledge-practice gap, and we have been closing it for our clients for three years. "It's impossible to remember every procedure and protocol" -- ICU Nurse The knowledge-practice gap is the root cause of - Stress and Burnout: $4.6 Billion / Year in the US - Medical Errors: #3 Cause of Death in the US - Waste: > $100 Billion / Year in the US As we close this gap, patient care is safer, with better outcomes, and lower costs.

How We Help Physicians

The Problem: Practice variation. The gap between institutional knowledge and frontline practice creates errors and increases costs. Frontline nurses, ancillaries, and physicians are overwhelmed. Current systems to support staff inadequately meet care demands and perpetuate the gap. The Solution: A cloud-based application that drives frontline adoption of the customer’s priority practices through point-of-care microlearning, improving consistency and outcomes. We empower unit/program educators and managers to deliver actionable and trackable microlearning, getting their staff on the same page. Our feedback loop allow frontline providers to express their satisfaction and needs directly to leadership, allowing rapid cycle improvement in quality of support, such that every healthcare provider has the information they need-- at the point of care-- so that they can deliver the best care possible to every life they touch.

How We Help Hospitals

Elemeno decrease practice deviation. This improves consistency of practice, which improves safety (decreases errors), improves efficiency (decreases waste), and empowers frontline staff (decreasing costs, by shortening on-boarding and improving engagement/retention).

How We Help Partners

We solve the associated problems for each strategic partner: Hospitals: drive practice sharing within your network, as well as (if desired) other hospitals. Knowledge sharing accelerates the spread of best practices. Medical Device Companies: They sell products, but need to support users & capture feedback Learning Management Systems: Institutional standards, but clients want custom content for teams/departments, at point of care HIT/EHR Companies: Patient-centered “what” + Elemeno’s staff-centered “how” Publishing Firms: Editorial “why” & “what,” but clients want user-generated “how” Consulting Firms: They develop solutions, but struggle to spread change

Challenge Mission

COVID Problem We Address

Background: The Challenge for ED Leadership & Frontline Staff

  • Real-time, seamless access to current guidelines, protocols, and information is vital to effective containment and mitigation strategies.

  • Rapid communication with frontline staff fosters confidence at a time of stress and uncertainty.

  • The COVID outbreak brings together national agencies/guidelines, state & county-specific reporting, and local site-specific practices-- all constantly evolving. As patient volume and acuity surge, healthcare facilities need their staff ready and healthy (both physically and emotionally).

Our COVID Solution

The Solution:

  • Elemeno gives leadership an official and authoritative source of content, available in the moment, in the hands of every staff member. Deliver communication directly to each unit, clinic, or group. Measure engagement by each staff member. Collect real-time feedback. Identify their needs.

  • Cloud-based solution. Mobile friendly. Agile. Deploy immediately. No IT needed.

Case Study: UCSF Emergency Dept

UCSF ED leadership streamlined COVID readiness training and ongoing communication to their staff.

  • “...absolutely critical to our ED response”

--- Dr. Jeanne Noble, ED Director of Disaster Readiness, UCSF

Elemeno COVID use-case in 1 min: Client COVID experience video

  • “... the source of truth for all of our ED providers and staff at UCSF in the rapidly changing environment of COVID-19. Transformative for us.”

--- Dr. Maria Raven, ED Chief and Vice-Chair, UCSF

Practices can be shared via Elemeno with other EDs in the UCSF system. Other institutions are similarly responding.

  • “With a large team working different shifts around the clock, leadership can now readily document staff review, audit staff learning, and collect staff feedback.”

--- Dr. Bruce Auerbach, Committee on Quality & Patient Safety, ACEP

Innovation Details

Intellectual Property Summary

We drive sharing of "Elemenoized" microlearning content within and across institutions. This content is our IP. Within an institution, the larger the volume of content, the greater the barrier to churn (and we have no institutional churn to date). Inter-institutional sharing creates a network effect, and the larger the content volume in this community, the greater the barrier to entry.

Clinical Information

  • Client Experience in 3 min: https://vimeo.com/346475371

  • 48% CLABSI reduction & $1M savings (AJMQ 2018)

  • 85% C. diff infection reduction (ACMQ 2018)

  • Decreased frequency of all serious harm events (SPS 2019)

  • Nurse educator efficiency increased 25%

  • Labor savings of $30k/hospital audit (ACMQ 2019)

  • Increased peer-recognition and patient satisfaction (AJMQ 2018)

  • Reduced staff off-line training time and cost

  • Share content across the enterprise and between institutions.

How we will use the funds raised

Any charitable contributions will go to accelerate the development and dissemination of the freemium COVID-19 Frontline Readiness App for Emergency Departments. Contributions beyond our development costs will go to support discounted deployments of Elemeno to institutions serving vulnerable populations (e.g., safety net clinics and hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, senior care)

Thank You
